Short version: the calculator runs in your browser, and your work stays there.

What is stored, and where

  • Your current graph is saved in your browser’s local storage so it is still there next time.
  • Version history and notebooks are saved in your browser’s IndexedDB.
  • Preferences (theme, language, the name you sign comments with) are saved in local storage.
  • An error log of the last few errors is kept in local storage so you can choose to copy it into a bug report. It is never sent automatically.

Clearing your browser’s site data for this domain removes all of it.

What is sent to a server

The requests needed to load the pages and the app, and the usage data described below. The calculator does not send your expressions, graphs or notebooks anywhere. A shared link contains the graph itself, encoded in the part of the address after #, which browsers do not send to servers.

Analytics and cookies

We use Microsoft Clarity to learn how the site and the calculator are used: which pages people visit, where they click and scroll, and recordings of visits that show this. It helps us find what is confusing or broken. What you type into the calculator, notebooks and tools is hidden in these recordings, and graphs themselves are never recorded.

Clarity sets cookies to tell one visit from the next, and Microsoft processes the data under the Microsoft privacy statement. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Clarity is not loaded at all. There is no advertising, and nothing is sold.
