ihateDesmos vs GeoGebra

Facts checked against GeoGebra’s own documentation on 20 October 2026

GeoGebra is a vast, free maths platform: graphing, dynamic geometry, a CAS, 3D, statistics and thousands of classroom applets. ihateDesmos is narrower and calculator-first: one fast interface for graphs, algebra and data, with an emphasis on numerical accuracy and exports.

The short answer

Choose GeoGebra for dynamic geometry constructions, for its enormous library of shared classroom materials, or if your course is built around it.

Choose ihateDesmos for a single, uncluttered calculator where graphs, algebra, statistics and differential equations live in one list, with error estimates, certified plotting, notebooks, and exports to TikZ, STL and video.

A lot of overlap

Both tools graph functions and equations in 2D and 3D, both include a computer algebra system, both draw slope fields and both export images and STL files. For many tasks either will do. The differences are in emphasis and design.

Where GeoGebra is stronger

  • Dynamic geometry. Constructions with points, lines, circles and loci that stay connected as you drag them are GeoGebra’s heart. ihateDesmos has a toolbar for the basic constructions, but nothing like GeoGebra’s range of tools.
  • Breadth. Separate apps for geometry, CAS, probability, 3D and a spreadsheet, each with many specialised commands.
  • Community. Hundreds of thousands of shared applets and lessons made by teachers.

Where ihateDesmos is different

  • One interface. Graphs, algebra, regressions, statistics, ODEs and complex functions all live in the same expression list. There are no apps or views to switch between.
  • Accuracy reporting. Integrals come with error estimates, roots are refined to about twelve digits, regression parameters come with standard errors and confidence bands, and certified mode proves which pixels a curve passes through.
  • Exports for documents. PDF, SVG and TikZ/pgfplots for papers and theses, plus GIF and video for slides.
  • Private by default. No account; graphs and notebooks stay in your browser and links carry the graph itself.

Frequently asked questions

Is GeoGebra better than ihateDesmos?
For dynamic geometry and for its library of classroom materials, yes. For a single fast calculator with algebra, statistics and accuracy reporting in one place, many people prefer ihateDesmos. Both are free, so try the task you care about in each.
Does ihateDesmos have a CAS like GeoGebra?
Yes. Its Algebra tab simplifies, factors, solves, integrates, finds limits and Taylor series, and shows steps for derivatives, integrals, limits, factoring and equations.
Can ihateDesmos do geometry constructions?
The basics. Its 2D toolbar places points, segments, lines, circles and polygons that stay connected when you drag them, and functions such as midpoint, intersection, reflect and circumcenter build on them. GeoGebra has far more construction tools.
Can I open GeoGebra files?
Yes. In the + menu, Import from Desmos or GeoGebra opens a .ggb file and converts its points, sliders, functions, lines, conics, inequalities and common construction commands on your device. Anything it can’t convert is listed.
